I have recently bought the BDV-E980W and I was not satisfied with the  sound quality. The high frequencies are absent. So I used a flashlight  in order to see how many speakers the front columns have. I found out  that there are two speakers, a small one in the upper part and a bigger  one in the middle. In the bottom you can find a kind of a bass reflex  hole.
The thing is that the top speaker does not produce any sound at all. I  suppose it is meant to produce the high frequencies (twitter). I went to  a Sony service and they told me that the top speaker does not exist.  After insisting to check it they told me that it might be a fake (!!!)  one, put there for no reason (!!!).
Has anyone else experienced the same problem? Do you find the frequency  range satisfactory? The front columns are supposed to be two way and the  middle positioned speaker does not seem to be a two way speaker. So,  what does the top speaker do? Is it a fake one or a defective one. I am  waiting for an official answer from the headquarters of Sony.
I have bought 3 home cinemas (5.1) in the past and all of them had clear  treble sound. BDV-E980W does not. Is it supposed to be like that or  does the top speaker not work.

    Hi,

I experience the same problem. The frequency-range seems to be limited. I've made a complaint, but awaits an answer. Have you heard anything more from Sony?

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

I could be wrong, but I think the sound is as its worst when you play cd's, music from USB and radio. When playing Bluray-discs I think it sounds better and clearer (even treble). Maybe it has something to do with how the reciever feeds sound to the speakers when using different sound-sources? I also noticed that the front and rear speakers have slightly different article-numbers (SS-TSB 108 and 109). Maybe they fitted lower quality speakers on both front and rear?

I also bought "the best of the best" and expected good quality sound (did not listen to it before buying either as I also expected it to be of a higher quality). I bought the BDV-E980W together with the HX920 TV-set, and the treble is much better and clearer on the TV-set(!). Sony should take these complaints seriously.

How did you manage to mount it? Do you have the parts-number for the twitters? I can see that the speakers for the new BDV-N990W has changed. Looks like they mounted new twitters...
