How to preserve battery life in laptops?

If we go back a decade, laptop batteries were for lack of the word "mean." The battery technology was so-so and some laptops had less than stellar battery management. All the current Hp, Dell, Apple and names have pretty good management.

We use a lot of laptops at the office. I can't imagine trying to remove a battery when we could, or not leaving it on AC for a year.

We've done all that and more. Yet we see batteries hang in till the 3rd year. Not long ago it was in year 2.

I'm sure someone will post with details on charging it, remove it so you run on AC or even deep discharges. Your choice to work hard.

Check the voltage of your CMOS battery. if your battery is low it will fail to power up the system. if you leave it sit for a long period of time, it may be having a chance to "recharge" itself..

You should try running the windows check disk utility to locate bad sectors and recover readable data.

You need to roll back your network adapter driver to the one that used to work.

right click on MY COMPUTER - click on MANAGE - click DEVICE MANAGER - click + next to NETWORK ADAPTER -

you should see an adapter with ann error indication

double click on the network adapter line

click on DRIVER - click on "roll back driver" and OK

Its like any other phone? When i plugged my phone in and registered it to my itunes, it automatically done them for me, all i had to do was open my photo's file and copy the photo's and paste them to my pictures file on the lab top

In order to correct problems with the battery's power management software, follow the steps below.

1. Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager .

2. Expand the Batteries category.

3. Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall .

WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.

4. On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes .

Alternately, select Action > Scan for hardware changes .

Sony doesn't make the Intel pro/100v chip.... Intel does. Sony might have used it in manufacturing their motherboards or NIC adapters.

If it used to beep and it doesn't now then it isn't POSTing.

Turn it off and unplug EVERYTHING. Leave it for a few minutes then plug the power cord in. Turn it on and see what happens.

It may be a drive letter conflict.

Plug both of them in, then right click on "computer" select manage.

From the list on the left, select disk management. '

From that point, let us know if you can see both hard drives in the list that shows up. If you can, select the one that isn't showing up in "computer" and right click it. From the popup menu, you can assign a new drive letter to it.

Dual Boot win7 and XP ???

When dual booting with another OS (ex: Vista or XP), you may not always have that OS partition show up in Computer with a driver letter in Windows 7. If this happens, then you will just need to add a drive letter to the OS (ex: Vista or XP) partition in Windows 7 Disk Management for it to show up in Computer with a driver letter.

You should find where the fan is located where there are vent openings in the laptop. Normally they would have a black or metal covering. The common location would be in the back corners of the laptop.

Clean it with a light suction vaccume hose, and with cotton-swabs on the fan blades to loosen any dust or foreign matter.

If you're still encountering the same problem, it's best to get that checked by someone or a company who does laptop repairs.

Have you tried pressing f8 on startup to get into safe mode? there should be a couple boot options to try out.

try that and we'll keep troubleshooting.

According to your problem description, I suggest you go to Windows Safe mode and then roll back the display adaptor driver.
